Housing Rehabilitation

North Carolina Housing Finance Agency's (NCHFA) Single Family Rehabilitation Program
offers funding to local organizations with the goal of making a long-term positive impact on the state's stock of standard affordable housing by encouraging the comprehensive rehabilitation of existing, moderately deteriorated, single-family housing units owned and occupied by lower-income elderly or disabled homeowners (below 80% of the area median income). For more information, click here.

NCHFA's Urgent Repair Program
provides grants for emergency home
repairs for elderly homeowners and other homeowners with special needs whose household incomes are below 50% of the median. The funds also may be used for accessibility modifications that enable homeowners to continue living in their homes after an injury or illness. Click here for more information.

The National Low Income Housing Coalition also offers good information, and answers many common questions on their website.
