National Housing Trust

The National Housing Trust Fund Campaign is working to establish a National Housing Trust Fund to build, rehab, and preserve 1.5 million units of primarily rental housing for the lowest income families over the next 10 years.

On October 11, 2007, the U.S. House of Representative passed the National Housing Trust Fund Bill (H.R. 2895) by a margin of 264-148.  This was a great victory to secure the fund in the house. Now, our sights are set on the U.S. Senate.

We expect to have a bill introduced in the Senate, with broad bipartisan co-sponsorship, so your help now is crucial.

The support of Senator Dole and Senator Burr is key.

Please call or email their offices and ask them to sign on as co-sponsors of the Senate Bill that will create the National Housing Trust Fund.

This bill will bring direct housing production funds to the NC Housing Trust Fund and to our largest cities.  It will result in an increase in funding for all of our current Housing Trust Fund programs.  This will not lessen our goal to gain $50 million in annual funding from the NC General Assembly, but will add more leverage to our Campaign.

We hope you will support this very important initiative.
