If you are seeking information on housing for elderly people, the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services maintains an informative website, including specific information on available housing in every county of the state, and general consumer information. Housing Assistance and Home Improvement is an optional county service that can assist adults and families who reside in or may return to independent housing to: 1) become better educated about available housing resources and to 2) have access to a higher standard of living by utilizing one or more federal, state and local home improvement funding sources.  The state Division of Aging and Adult Services, the regional Area Agency on Aging or county Department of Social Services is the point of contact for more information.  For more information on the counties and service provider agencies which offer the home improvement component, click here.

Resources for Seniors maintains a directory of housing and services for people who are elderly.

The NC Housing Finance Agency also maintains a listing of privately-owned apartments that they have financed since 2000 that are affordable for those earning 60 percent or less of the median income.  Click here and select "elderly" under "unit type" to search for apartments in your area.
