NC Housing Search
NCHousingSearch.org is a free search-engine for finding affordable housing. They also have a toll-free number (877-428-8844) you can call.
Visit HUD's website, where you can search for affordable housing.
My Apartment Map
MyApartmentMap plots affordable housing on an interactive map, so that renters can easily find housing near their desired location. It also shows nearby grocery stores, public transportation, and other amenities. Renters can search for three types of affordable housing:
- Section 8 Housing - this includes rentals that accept Section 8 vouchers.
- Great Values - this allows for visitors to search for rentals that fall below market value.
- Special Rates and Deals - this includes rentals that are currently offering promotions, deals and special pricing.
GoSection8.com is an online rental listing service for Section 8 housing program tenants, landlords, and public housing agencies.
USDA Rural Development
If you're looking for affordable housing in rural areas, visit USDA's Rural Development website.

If you're homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, you may qualify for the Homelessness Prevention & Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP). HPRP is designed to assist in the following activities:
- Prevention – Assist households at risk of losing their housing and becoming homeless.
- Rapid Re-housing – Assist homeless households in need of short-term or medium-term assistance obtain housing.

Housing for Ex-Offenders
The NCDOC County Resource Guide was developed by the NC Department of Correction’s Office of Research and Planning/Office of Transition Services to provide released offenders, Probation/Parole Officers, Division of Prisons Case Managers and Social Workers and others with a searchable database of community resources in each of North Carolina’s 100 counties. The database contains contact information for many core local, state, and federal agencies, as well as various Faith-based and Community-based service organizations that provide assistance to released offenders and/or offenders under correctional supervision to support a successful transition into their community.
